Signs of the Times

[From the Clarion, Cabri, Saskatchewan, Canada, May 3, 1923]

Love is more than an emotion; it is service. Success, happiness, consist not so much in getting, as giving,—service to humanity is a noble achievement. It is not the amount of cash, or time, or trouble we expend so much as the motive. The highest reward of service is the privilege of having been of service.... Love is the connecting link between friendship and truth. Love knows no destination of class or creed. Brotherly love causes the strong to support the weak, the rich to help the poor, the educated to instruct the ignorant and to care for the sick, and all in affliction or distress.... Jesus said, I am the truth. Truth is eternal and unchanging.... Truth is the foundation of all goodness, and we admire it, even though we ourselves be false and faithless. Truth is the natural outcome of friendship, and love is the manifestation of these qualities.
