Reciprocation

NELLIE B. MACE

It cannot be that words of cheer
I speak to help you on your way
Are vain, since I must brave and clear
Remain to hearten you to-day.

In thoughts of kind concern that flow
To you, Love also blesses me
And hints your joy, when you bestow
On me a benedicite.

When you and I our love release,
And for entire humanity
Solicit joy, we shall increase
For all Love's pure amenity.
