As a child, I was under the strict discipline of a so-called orthodox church. Early in life certain events occurred which brought me the belief that the Bible was a wilderness of contradictory statements, which mortals knew nothing about, and that there was no justice in the dominion of God. I soon became an infidel, and so lived until five years ago last February. At that time I was told by specialists that should I live until the coming out of the leaves, I would be totally blind. From a material viewpoint they were correct. The case, as diagnosed by physicians, was a complication of three diseases, one hereditary, the others known as incurable. For a number of years I had been constantly under the care of physicians.
Christian Science was recommended by a friend. A practitioner was called, only as a last resort and not because I believed it would do any good. Within that hour of the practitioner's visit all bandages were removed from the eyes, and I saw the light as God intended we should see it. In other words, a blind infidel had been instantly healed through a Christian Science practitioner, thereby proving again the words of our dear Leader, as given in "Scienceand Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 495), "God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God." With this healing went the alcohol and, soon after, the tobacco habit. Since that time Christian Science has met every need promptly and surely.
For these healings I am truly grateful, although they cannot be compared to the spiritual unfoldment of the Bible as revealed by the study of Science and Health. This gives me such a definite understanding that now the Bible is indeed my "chart of life" (Science and Health, p. 24). In gratitude for the spiritual transformation. I have received I can but lisp my reverence for Mrs. Eddy's great work, leaving to my motives and living the expression of my sincerity.—
