The study of Christian Science has brought so many...
The study of Christian Science has brought so many blessings into my home that I find difficulty in selecting those for which I am most grateful. However, I do feel increasingly grateful for the knowledge of Love's ever-presence and power, and for the sureness of man's at-one-ment with Him, which bring courage and confidence sufficient to meet whatever problem evil presents.
For nearly eight years we have had many instances of the healing power of God, as taught in Christian Science, and have received numberless valuable lessons of Truth's unfoldment. That healing for which the aid of Christian Science was first sought seemed somewhat slow of realization; but we found it, as Jesus said, "by prayer and fasting,"—prayer that is the desire for spiritual understanding, and fasting that denies the claims of matter and false law. Our eldest child had suffered from epilepsy since he was quite young, and we had been told that there was no hope of cure; but he has been completely healed through Christian Science for at least three years. The last time there was any manifestation of this trouble, its nothingness was seen so clearly that there was no fear expressed at all; and it seemed but a dream. The old dread of return was completely eradicated. This one healing alone quite fills our hearts with loving gratitude, but there have been many others in our family of five. Last fall this same child had diphtheria and was completely healed in about ten days' time without the aid of a practitioner. No other member of the family experienced so much as a belief of sore throat then or later.
A year or so ago another child complained one day of pains accompanied with fever, and of other discordant conditions which so increased that by nightfall the trouble was seen to be meningitis, which I had experienced as a child and which I had greatly feared for my children. Without mentioning this difficulty to any one, work in Christian Science was begun. I realized full well that the fear was in my own thought, and that meningitis could not exist in God's realm, where this child lived and moved and had his being. This thought was so powerful that the healing was accomplished in less than five hours, every symptom having disappeared. In the morning the boy went to school as usual, perfectly well.
