For more than twenty-five years, Christian Science has...
For more than twenty-five years, Christian Science has been my only physician, and I have been the recipient of so much good that I feel the least I can do is to share my blessings with the field.
When I was a young man, I had what the physician called gall fever, which left me with a serious liver complaint. This brought on attacks of rheumatism, so that at times I was unable to leave my room. As this was the seeming cause of my father's death, I had also this fear to combat. A number of physicians were employed, and patent medicines resorted to, but without any permanent benefit. Physicians told me I could not get well unless I gave up work. I was on a new farm, and did not see how I could do this.
Finally I was led, in 1896, to look into Christian Science, through a healing which I witnessed that seemed like a miracle to me. I bought the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to learn what brought about this healing. When I began to read the book, it was like Greek to me; but somehow I could not let it alone. The little I did grasp appealed to me so strongly that I read every spare moment; and this resulted in the healing of the liver difficulty. I began the study in February, and by September I had gained twenty-five pounds in weight. The rheumatism was more stubborn, and appeared at times; but it, too, was finally overcome. I was also healed of the tobacco habit.
