Healing in Christian Science means enlightenment,—ignorance...
Victoria Daily Advocate
Healing in Christian Science means enlightenment,—ignorance removed through right knowledge. According to Christian Science, health implies a state of soundness, wholeness,—that which is wholesome, healthy, salutary, hearty, well, good. These terms all carry with them the idea of permanence,—that which endures, is not subject to change, but lives on and on. Health, therefore, according to Christian Science, is not a material condition: it is a spiritual quality, like honesty, purity, goodness,—a quality of divine Mind, God, the reflection of good. So in seeking and finding real health you are directed to seek and find God. "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" If you examine and study the term "Lord" as here used, you will find that it implies the truth about God and man; and this truth is your light and your salvation, your strength and your health.
Christian Scientists do not overlook the conditions antagonistic to health according to human belief, such as the beliefs of heredity, infection, poison, food deficiency, food excess, fear, grief, emotional excess, and lack of interest in life. At this point Christian Science emphasizes the fact that heaven and earth are full of God's glory, infinite good; that this good is for man now and here; that he can bring it into his experience in a way that is practical; that heredity, infection, poison, and so on, are not God-ordained, and hence they are without reality or existence.
