Christian Science is a religion of Love; and its purpose is to perpetuate the words and works of the master Metaphysician, Jesus the Christ. The membership of its church is composed of prayerful, law-abiding people, who are counted by the thousands throughout the world. The salvation of the world lies, not in the arguments of theologians, not in creeds and dogmas, not in religious strife and bickerings, but in a study and spiritual understanding of the Bible.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has given to the world that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which has unlocked the hidden secrets of the Book of books, "making wise the simple." She recognized the need of getting away from personality, with its subtlety, deceit, human policy, envy, malice, egotism, self-righteousness, hypocrisy, bigotry, worldly wisdom, and love of leadership. The Church of Christ, Scientist, "is designed to be built on the Rock, Christ; even the understanding and demonstration of divine Truth, Life, and Love, healing and saving the world from sin and death; thus to reflect in some degree the Church Universal and Triumphant" (Church Manual, p. 19).
