The question propounded by a critic in a recent issue of your paper as to "who sins," is answered in the Scriptures. There are millions of people, in addition to the proponent of the question, who have been unable to comprehend the Scriptures on this point, and have failed to reconcile certain passages, seemingly contradictory,—difficulties which have vanished entirely through an understanding of Christian Science. An understanding of the negative nature of evil, as taught in Christian Science, will give the only true and satisfactory answer to the question. A study of Mrs. Eddy's writings, without prejudice, and with a sincere desire to grasp the truth which her spiritual teaching has unfolded, will solve all problems regarding a satisfactory interpretation of the Scriptures, and show that the truths contained therein are one harmonious whole. John said, "He that committeth sin is of the devil." Jesus defined devil as "a liar, and the father of it." "Here it appears," as Mrs. Eddy writes on page 32 of "Unity of Good," "that a liar was in the neuter gender,—neither masculine nor feminine. Hence it was not man (the image of God) who lied, but the false claim to personality, which I call mortal mind; a claim which Christian Science uncovers, in order to demonstrate the falsity of the claim." Whatever is "of the devil" must partake of the same nature, and is "neither masculine nor feminine."
