Christian Science does not teach that Jesus was God,...
Charleston Mail
Christian Science does not teach that Jesus was God, but that he was what he claimed himself to be, the "Son of God." Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 332): "Jesus was born of Mary. Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness. The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual,—yea, the divine image and likeness, dispelling the illusions of the senses; the Way, the Truth, and the Life, healing the sick and casting out evils, destroying sin, disease, and death. As Paul says: 'There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.' The corporeal man Jesus was human." Peter speaks of Jesus of Nazareth as "a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you." Jesus plainly said, "I can of mine own self do nothing;" and again, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." The Christ could be nothing less than divine; and every time a healing takes place through the understanding of the Science of Christ (and healing by this method is going on in a steadily increasing ratio) the divinity of the Christ is proved; and we submit that proof is better than profession.
Jesus sent his disciples into the world to do the same works he had done; that is, to preach the gospel and heal the sick. Nor did he limit this to their time, but said, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word." Christian Scientists are proving their position to be correct by demonstrating that a spiritual understanding of God will do for suffering humanity now just what a spiritual understanding of Him did in Jesus' time; and they are profoundly grateful for every opportunity afforded to proclaim the full gospel found in the King James Version of the Bible.
