That the teachings of Mrs. Eddy, as set forth in the Christian Science textbook, are inspired is abundantly proved every day to the entire satisfaction of every sincere seeker for truth. When the disciples of John came to Jesus with a similar inquiry, he referred them to his works as proofs of his Messiahship: "The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them." Obviously, the words "Science of Mind" mean knowledge or exact understanding of God, which understanding Mrs. Eddy plainly tells us she received from the Scriptures, her only textbook. Science and Health does not add anything to the Bible; and neither Mrs. Eddy nor her followers contend that it is superior to the Bible. Mrs. Eddy herself has said, "The Bible contains the recipe for all healing;" and again: "The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in 'the straight and narrow way' of Truth" (Science and Health, pp. 406 and 126). "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" is the Christian Scientists' commentary on the Bible, and it presents a demonstrable interpretation of the Bible teachings. No one can gainsay the fact that Christian Scientists are earnest and sincere students of the Bible. However, as stated in Science and Health (p. 319), "The divine Science taught in the original language of the Bible came through inspiration, and needs inspiration to be understood." What is the test of our understanding? Is it not demonstration, doing the works that Jesus did and commanded his followers to do also? When the sick, the sinning, and the sorrowful discern the Christ, Truth, as taught in the Christian Science textbook, they know its teachings are inspired by God, good. The Master said, "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit;" and, "By their fruits ye shall know them."

There are two contradictory accounts of creation to be found in the first and second chapters of Genesis. The first includes the account of the creation of spiritual man, made in the image and likeness of God. The second is an allegorical account of a so-called material man, made from the dust of the ground. The fruits of recognizing the first account of creation as the truth are health, happiness, and Godlikeness. The fruits of accepting the second account of creation as real or true or as more than an allegory are sin, sickness, and discord.
