I had exhausted the skill of some of our best physicians
I had exhausted the skill of some of our best physicians. After some years of suffering I had undergone a surgical operation in which a cystic tumor was removed; but I still found little relief. There had also been added to this dream of mortal sense a great sorrow, and I was not able to accept the teachings of my church that a loving God sends sorrow and sickness; so I gave up my church, although still appreciating the good it had given me. I had lost all faith in materia medica. Physicians advised change of climate, from which I would seem to get some relief for perhaps a year, and then relapse into a state of almost complete exhaustion. Severe attacks of stomach and bladder trouble, also throat difficulty with a troublesome cough, were frequent. I had had for years an organic disorder for which there seemed no cure.
At one of these most trying times Christian Science came to me. A loving practitioner talked with me, and gave me such a sense of comfort. I secured the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Later, on learning this was studied in connection with the Bible, I took up an honest, earnest study of both. It was three years before I was healed. I received patient, loving help at times from faithful practitioners. I am more than grateful for the slow healing. It has given me a better understanding of God, deeper compassion for humanity, a great sense of gratitude to God and to the gentle, loving woman who was inspired and pure enough to give this wonderful truth to the world. I have experienced many blessings through the power of Truth, since my first healing. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church, for class instruction, and that this great regenerating movement of Christian Science is protected by divine wisdom that it may bless all mankind.
