Our True Friends

It has often been said by some who have been in Christian Science a little while, "If I could only be in company with some real good Christian Scientists, how much more easily I could work out my salvation!" Neither you nor I, however, can ever get away from the fact that we have our own salvation to work out "with fear and trembling," as Paul says.

Let us see who are some of our true friends. Are not all those who have subscribed for The Christian Science Monitor having a real friend coming to them every day to do them good? How often, when a Christian Scientist has been laboring under heavy pressure and all the efforts he could put forth to destroy the condition seemed in vain, he has gone to this friend, the Monitor, perhaps reading only the Christian Science article in it, and the cloud has lifted and he was free. Then, his heart filled with gratitude, he took courage and pressed on.

When a Christian Scientist is reading an article on Christian Science for enlightenment, whose company is he in? When a false claim is broken while reading that article, has that one received Christian Science help, or has he not? If not, what relieved the one who was reading it? How many Christian Scientists are reading that very same article at the same time? Who can tell? How many are being made free while reading it? Who can tell?
