The Lectures

Scarborough, England (Society).—Frederick R. Rhodes made the following introductory remarks at a Christian Science lecture by John W. Doorly:—

The report of the Lambeth Conference, 1920, contains the statements: "Here we are bound with penitence to acknowledge that there has often been a grave deficiency in our church's faith and teaching. Not sufficiently have we emphasized our Lord's revelation of the fatherhood of God, of the fullness of His love, of His loving care of body as well as of soul, which invites us to cast all our care upon Him." Through the revelation of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy has given to the world the opportunity of proving that a scientific understanding of His Word will heal the sick body just as surely to-day as it did in the time of the Master. These lectures are the outward expression of the desire of those who have experienced the blessing of healing to obey the command of Christ Jesus, "Freely ye have received, freely give;" and many people have come to them with heavy burdens, and been able to "bear a song away." Many years ago, when my home was one of suffering and intense sorrow, my wife was attracted by an advertisement of a Christian Science lecture. She went to the lecture and, as a direct result, was healed of a lifelong complaint. In turn, both my daughter and I were soon enjoying the true sense of harmony, which is the birthright of all God's children.
