Mere words will never be sufficient to tell the love and gratitude I feel for the revelation of the truth of being by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

It is nearly four years since my little girl, an only child, was attacked by the worst possible kind of spinal disease. She had been a very delicate child from birth. From then onwards she was a continual source of anxiety. My husband and I lived in constant fear of the many illnesses which attacked her, such as malaria, diphtheria, scarlatina, and typhoid fever. As the usual method among doctors in Spain is to starve the patient for all illnesses, believing by so doing to starve the disease as well, it can readily be understood that after each severe illness the poor child emerged a mere skeleton. This, added to the custom here of a wholesale shaving of the head in an illness such as above mentioned, made the poor child a continual object of pity, instead of allowing her to grow up in God's sunshine as simply and happily as a flower. When she had been built up once more, another illness would come along, until finally this most dreaded illness of all, spinal disease, manifested itself. My husband and I were in despair. I consulted four doctors in Spain, and refused to believe them or to do what they said; namely, to put my child at once in a plaster of Paris cast. They then told me if I did not believe them to take my little girl to England to get advice there.

About this time, an American friend who knew of my trouble and despair, and who also could see that I felt no longer any confidence in material means or doctors, came to me with the story of Christian Science. She said she was not exactly a believer herself, but, seeing my need and having known of many cures by this means, she thought I might care to know of it. I knew nothing of Christian Science; had read neither articles nor anything else relating to it. After seeing a famous specialist on spinal cases in England, however, and hearing from him that in order to be cured the child would have to pass from two to five years strapped on a frame, with no use of the legs, I decided to seek the truth.
