About seven years ago I was in the very "slough of despond," sometimes wishing something would happen to end it all. My wife, the mother of three children, had been sick for years, and had been operated upon twice; but without any benefit. I had lost several hundred dollars, the savings of several years, through a bank failure. Worry must have been written on my face, as I remember meeting a friend one day who told me to cheer up, that "the darkest hour precedes the dawn." Whether he knew it or not, he proved to be a true prophet.

We were dissatisfied with our location in the town, and while with a real estate agent recounted some of our troubles to him. We were then told of Christian Science, and promised to attend one of the services. My most pronounced physical trouble was stomach disorder. The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was purchased, and the help of a practitioner was obtained. My wife was healed almost instantaneously. The stomach trouble was overcome after a few weeks' treatments. It was while having these treatments and studying the textbook that the tobacco habit was also overcome. I had used tobacco for thirty years. I have laid aside glasses, which a specialist said I should always have to wear, the trouble having been brought on by an injury received when a boy.

It is my desire to be always grateful to those who helped me at a time when I did not have sufficient understanding myself to overcome the ailments that called for immediate relief. I have been completely restored to health, and realize that it is on a new basis. The study of Christian Science has taken the place of worry, and it has brought harmony into our home. Information which came unsolicited enabled us to make a change in our location; and it has proved to be a good investment. The money lost in the bank failure was practically all repaid. Christian Science offers a remedy for every ill; and I am most grateful, because I know it has opened up the road that leads to the understanding of perfect spiritual existence. It is like coming from darkness to light; and every day brings more light. Angels, "God's thoughts," as Mrs. Eddy defines them in Science and Health (p. 581), have helped me over the rough places. One good, true idea held to has brought me through dark places where evil suggestions would try to confuse and discourage. Christian Science is giving me an understanding of the Bible and a new concept of God, showing what He has done and is doing for mankind.
