Christian Science teaches that human will-power is not...

Christian Science teaches that human will-power is not Science; that this method of treatment could not be otherwise than detrimental, for the reason that it may easily infringe on the rights of men and make them less able to withstand the temptations of sin and the arguments of sickness. We learn in Christian Science that God never made man sick or sinful, and that man created by God has no power or any faculty underived from his Maker wherewith to make himself sick or sinful. God is the healer we depend on in Christian Science. By building a foundation of right thinking and right acting we are able to heal by the selfsame methods employed and taught by Jesus and his true early followers. Christian Scientists are temperate in all things. They strive to spiritualize thought; to keep their minds filled with divine Truth and Love; to be law-loving and law-abiding citizens. In reality, God is the only Lawgiver, and obedience to His laws is the only legitimate demand made on Christians. Surely it is the desire of all to bring thought and desire into conformity with God's perfect law rather than to depend on anything else. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 183) Mrs. Eddy has stated: "Divine Mind rightly demands man's entire obedience, affection, and strength. No reservation is made for any lesser loyalty. Obedience to Truth gives man power and strength. Submission to error superinduces loss of power."
