Christian Scientists radically differ with the thought that considers disease material and man as matter. Since disease is as mental as sin (the sick thought being expressed as a sick body), to treat man as if he were matter and to disregard mind is to overlook the seeming cause of disease. The careful study and close application of Christian Science heals disease, because it strikes at the very root of the trouble. The following lines from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 188) by Mary Baker Eddy are pertinent: "Sickness is a growth of error, springing from mortal ignorance or fear. Error rehearses error. What causes disease cannot cure it. The soil of disease is mortal mind, and you have an abundant or scanty crop of disease, according to the seedlings of fear. Sin and the fear of disease must be uprooted and cast out."
