Goldfield Daily Tribune
Students of Christian Science are quite willing that Christian Science be judged by the Christian works it is doing. Any one understanding its rules and adhering thereto will find them to be scientific. As for the political activity of Christian Scientists, we take only an active interest in politics, as every good citizen should; but this rightful individual activity of Christian Scientists aims at electing clean, conscientious, honest men to office and at guarding our rights under the laws of our land. We want men in office who will be fair to all. We stand for religious, political, and medical freedom, not domination; and no organization need feel they must "mix in politics" as "a matter of self-defense" on our account. On page 276 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," Mrs. Eddy says: "I am asked, 'What are your politics?" I have none, in reality, other than to help support a righteous government; to love God supremely, and my neighbor as myself."
