After eighteen years of the study of Christian Science...
After eighteen years of the study of Christian Science it is difficult to know where to begin to describe adequately the many blessings that have come to me as the result of that study.
I was in bed with a severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism, from which I constantly suffered, when "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was sent to me by a friend. I shall never forget the wonderful illumination that came to me when I read the passage on page 29, where Mrs. Eddy says, "The illumination of Mary's spiritual sense put to silence material law and its order of generation, and brought forth her child by the revelation of Truth, demonstrating God as the Father of men." I was healed instantaneously, and got up and dressed and went into the next room, to the great surprise of my mother; and I said, "If this book is true, and I know it is, there is no reason for me to stay in bed." I will mention, in passing, that I had been told I must never get my feet wet or be out in the rain, as that would result in a recurrence of the severe pain; so I had dreaded the winter months. It was such a joy to realize that I was free! I had proved the truth of that passage in Science and Health (p. 442), "Mortal Man, no longer sick and in prison, walked forth, his feet 'beautiful upon the mountains,' as of one 'that bringeth good tidings.'"
Both my boys were healed through the understanding of Christian Science: one of tubercular trouble, and the younger of several discordant conditions that seemed as if they must debar him from entering the army, which he always wished to do. My elder son went into the navy and the younger into the army, each having to pass a stiff medical examination, which proved their healing was perfect.
