It is over sixteen years since I first applied to Christian Science for treatment. At that time I was suffering from double curvature of the spine, internal trouble, and a severe form of indigestion. I had never been strong from childhood, and for over a year I had been a complete invalid. During that year I had had various medical treatments, including two hours' massage daily for six months, and an operation. I was under the care of five doctors, two of whom expressed the opinion that I should never be able to lead a normal life. From the time I got "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began treatment in Christian Science, I led a normal life; and within a fortnight the constant pain in my back had disappeared. The other ailments were overcome more slowly, and sometimes it seemed a long, uphill fight. For the last ten years, however, I have had excellent health, every trace of the former troubles having disappeared. During the war I was tested to the uttermost, as I held a supervising appointment in a munition factory which required physical endurance and mental alertness. I could never have undertaken this work if Christian Science had not taught me that any work which is right for us to do can be done, if we rely wholly on God and are guided by Him.
Christian Science has changed my whole life, and no words can express my deep gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered this wonderful truth and founded it on so sure a basis that the winds and waves of mortal belief cannot shake it, because it is built on the rock, Christ.—(Mrs.) Helena Victoria Burness, Edinburgh, Scotland.
