This is an expression of gratitude for the many blessings...
This is an expression of gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me and mine through Christian Science. Although I had heard of Christian Science all my life, I continued to be one of those who having eyes see not, and having ears hear not; but the voice of Truth though still and small is very insistent, and I was finally brought to the realization that this wonderful Science, of which I had heard so much, was applicable to my own case, which was a complication of fear, worry, and poverty.
The occasion for my calling a practitioner was an attack of influenza. I had all the symptoms of that supposedly dread disease, including extreme nervous exhaustion and heart failure, and was on the verge of passing on. I was confined to my bed, surrounded by medicine bottles, pills, and poultices,—all the paraphernalia of materia medica. The doctor had been attending me for two weeks and doing his utmost to help me, but failed. Then the practitioner came, so quietly and so calmly, and silently treated me! At once all pain and worry left me, and in a few days I was going about perfectly well and with a song of gratitude on my lips. All material means of healing disappeared at once from our home, and have never been resorted to since.
I have continued to study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and other Christian Science literature, and have thus been helped and guided in all of my daily problems, and have been able to ward off threatened illness by adhering to Mrs. Eddy's advice, "Meet every adverse circumstance as its master" (Science and Health, p. 419). Christian Science is indeed the mother's helper, and I am especially grateful for the very great help its teaching brings to the solution of the numerous and perplexing problems which arise daily in every household. It would make me very happy to know that every mother had a copy of Science and Health at hand to help her over the difficult places.
