The Reverend Canon Field did right in going to the...
Nottingham (England) Journal and Express
The Reverend Canon Field did right in going to the Christian Science textbook for his information. The reason why he has failed to grasp its spiritual meaning is because he has studied it through the lens of scholastic theology.
His statement that "the Church can give all and more than Christian Science could give" is a bold one indeed, and one he will find it difficult to prove, for the theology taught by the churches does not and cannot heal the sick.
He states that the "Christian Scientists declare that the sick have no need of a physician." Nowhere in the Christian Science literature will he find this statement, and no Scientists would make it. They can, however, say that they do not need medical assistance, because God is their only Physician.
Had the worthy canon's thought caught the spiritual inspiration of Christian Science, his sermons would heal the sick both bodily and mentally.
