Availing myself of the opportunity offered in the periodicals...
Availing myself of the opportunity offered in the periodicals for the giving of testimonies, I am giving below a few experiences of the many which make the life of a seeker after Truth so rich. Through the study and application of Christian Science I have been healed of a skin disease, which I had for over twenty years. The cause of the disease was believed both by my parents and the physicians to have been a cold October wind; consequently in cold and stormy weather the disease would manifest itself in its worst form. I was treated with several different remedies by the physicians, but no healing occurred and no improvement was manifested, so we soon dismissed them. Many years later, still having the old disease, I found Christian Science, and through the study of it I began to understand the unreality of sickness and disease and to realize the nature of God's purity, health, and holiness, and before I knew it there was not a trace of the old complaint; it had gone to where it came from—nothingness, and being understood as nothing it has never since appeared. Christian Science teaches me how to avail myself of God's wisdom and goodness and thus am I proving for myself that God is "a very present help in trouble." One morning on my way to work a sense of discouragement seemed to have the upper hand. I was troubled over a problem in the office which I had worked earnestly on the previous day without finding a solution, and it seemed as though all channels of information were closed. Having boarded a subway train, I opened my daily paper, The Christian Science Monitor, and read an article on the Home Forum page entitled, "The Poor Wise Man." This article was just what I needed, for it pointed out to me that "to infinite wisdom there are no problems" and "no unsolved difficulties" and further "if there ever is to be found a solution of a problem, that solution must always have existed, and there is no inherent reason why it should not be seen first rather than last."
The truth contained in the article healed me instantly, and I knew that God would give me understanding to work out my seeming problem. That day in the office all the information needed came directly into my observation and I completed my work to the satisfaction of all concerned. This experience proved to me the truth of our beloved Leader's statement found on page 307 of "Miscellaneous Writings," "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies." I am deeply grateful to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, because she lived a life so pure and unselfed and in obedience to God, thereby being enabled to perceive the Christ, Truth, and explain him to the world.—Thorbjorn Johnson, Brooklyn, N. Y.
