Four years ago I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

Four years ago I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for the first time with an open mind, and before I had read far I was convinced of the truth it contained. Although I had taken up the book out of mere curiosity and with no desire to gain help from it, I saw as I read that it expressed the truth of Christianity, the undivided garment, and I was very shortly thereafter healed of a sense of jealousy that had always been a burden to me and of stomach and intestinal trouble that I had suffered from since I was a small child. Since then there have been two almost instantaneous healings of grippe, as well as many healings of minor things such as colds and headaches.

In the winter of 1918 a demonstration was made in the overcoming of pneumonia and pleurisy. The healing of the lungs took place just as soon as I gave up a sense of self-will and yielded obedience to those who were helping me. This came at the end of eight days and nights of complete prostration and delirium. After that there was a sense of weakness to be overcome, which culminated one day in a rapid sinking spell. When what seemed to be the end approached, my Christian Science nurse and I decided not to call the practitioner for help lest we alarm the other members of my family. Then for about three hours we worked without ceasing. During most of this time I was unconscious, but in my conscious moments I was enabled to see the truth of being more clearly than ever before, and every suggestion of what seemed so imminent to mortal sense was met by the clear understanding that God was my Life and that I had no life in matter to relinquish. At the end of the three hours my strength suddenly returned. Every accompanying symptom which had appeared was overcome, such as an irritating and disfiguring rash which covered my body, and such weakness of the eyes that I could at times hardly focus them, and in three weeks from the day I first went to bed I went out riding in an automobile.

The gratitude which I felt following this healing was not greater for the healing itself than for the fact that I had been enabled to understand the Principle which had healed me; and the feeling of all of us who had worked together was not merely that the body had been cured, but that a great spiritual victory had been won. For this and for all the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science, I render to God most grateful thanks.—(Mrs.) Helen Grow Rottschaefer, Cranford, New Jersey.
