Instantaneous healing through Christian Science is the highest expression of its efficacy, the ultimate demonstration of the transforming of the body by the renewing of the mind. Such healing through the words of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, it was my privilege to experience something over six years ago. I had suffered for a long period of time, sometimes very severely, from a pain in my side which physicians said was caused by adhesions resulting from an operation and which they said could only be relieved by further surgical work. This was undergone, but months afterwards the pain in my side and other troubles from which it was believed the surgery would relieve me, still persisted and I turned in great weariness of the flesh to Christian Science for help.

I had been studying the Lesson-Sermons about a month perhaps, and trying to apply the truths I understood, when one day in great discouragement I spoke to a friend of the old pain in my side, and referred to it as "adhesion." I shall never forget the happy light in her face and what she said to me, for with the illumination of spiritual sense which came to me with the words she quoted from the textbook, things were translated into thoughts and I saw that for years I had been thinking of adhesion as a material thing, a pain in my side, suffering, death; and the light of this radiant understanding showed it to me as a mortal belief about myself, its seeming power at an end; and like Peter, in prison realizing the unreality of chains and prison door, I walked forth liberated.

For the glad conviction of the power of declared truth to heal, which this experience brought to me, I am still deeply grateful. Truly He has said, "My word . . . shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
