Signs of the Times

[The Walla Walla (Wash.) Union]

The Union extends to the official boards of the First Congregational church and the First Presbyterian church its congratulations on their broad vision and their unselfish purpose to bring about a federated church work which will be a large and valuable force in the life of Walla Walla and the surrounding country. They have the best wishes of this paper for the consummation of their plans.

There are many hard-headed business men who cannot understand the carelessness which allows duplication of effort and expenses in so many churches which are working along the same lines. This proposal to combine forces for local work for the sake of efficiency looks like plain common sense. They cannot understand the willingness of church members to allow the property in which they have invested their money for Christian purposes to remain idle six days out of seven. This proposal of an all-the-week institutional service commends itself to them.
