The outburst against Christian Science by a "Doctor of...

New Bedford (Mass.) Standard

The outburst against Christian Science by a "Doctor of Sacred Theology" included two purported quotations from the writings of Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, which are not actual quotations. It also included a quotation mistakenly attributed to The Christian Science Board of Directors. Presumably these lapses were not intentional; they were due to heat and haste.

Christian Science, as stated by Mrs. Eddy, in paragraphs beginning on pages 391 and 393 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," teaches that "fear is the fountain of sickness, and you master fear and sin through divine Mind; hence it is through divine Mind that you overcome disease. Only while fear or sin remains can it bring forth death. ... It is well to be calm in sickness; to be hopeful is still better; but to understand that sickness is not real and that Truth can destroy its seeming reality, is best of all, for this understanding is the universal and perfect remedy."
