In this testimony I would like to tell, as far as it is possible...

In this testimony I would like to tell, as far as it is possible to do so in words, of the blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. As far as I can remember I was never quite well and one thing or another always ailed me. As some relatives had suffered from tubercular disease, and I had early become acquainted with the results of it, the thought often came that I too would be taken ill with it, and this did not help to alleviate my suffering. At school I heard of the blessings which Jesus brought two thousand years ago, and I used to think that if he were only here to-day he would surely heal me too. I, however, lacked a better understanding, and so resigned myself to suffering.

In 1913 I turned to homeopathy and for two, years was treated by specialists. Like our family physician they did all they could to restore my health. I then turned to nature cure, and every one advised me to try a change of climate. Every summer I spent some time in our Alps, but without deriving the desired benefit. When to kidney trouble was added the dreaded lung disease, I lost all desire to live and all trust in material methods of cure. At the right time, however, a dear lady brought Christian Science to my attention. I showed little interest in it, but this dear relative had patience with me, and I read from time to time copies of Der Herold and other Christian Science literature. The more I read the more I wanted to know about this Science; so in the spring of 1915 I asked a practitioner for absent treatment. At first there was little improvement; but as my understanding and earnestness increased, one disease after another disappeared, including neuralgia and, above all, the fear of tuberculosis.

In October, 1915, I had the opportunity to attend a Wednesday evening meeting in Zurich and also procured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The following winter I discarded dark glasses, and for two years I have enjoyed better health, which I appreciate as only those can who never had it. In the summer of 1917 I had a severe attack of inflammation of the lungs and scarlet fever. A practitioner was asked to treat me, with the result that the fever disappeared very quickly, my temperature became normal, and in a few days I was up. Three months later I had catarrh so severely that I was almost overcome with fear, but when my Christian Science relatives pointed out to me the powerlessness of fear this trouble also was overcome.
