About five years ago I was taken with what is known to the medical profession as a severe case of rheumatism and was unable to walk without assistance. I knew of others who had the same trouble and that the doctors had not helped them, so hardly knew what to do. A dear friend, a Christian Scientist, asked me why I did not give Christian Science a trial; so I talked the matter over with my husband, and we finally called in a practitioner. After the third treatment what Mrs. Eddy terms "chemicalization" (Science and Health, p. 401) began to take place. There were symptoms of old troubles, such as sore throat, palpitation of the heart, earache, and headache, and I felt certain that I would not be able to sleep. On expressing this fear to my friend she notified the practitioner. Needless to say, I slept through the whole night, and ever since have been free from those ailments. After about two weeks' treatment for the rheumatism without apparent result, the erroneous condition suddenly gave way one day, enabling me to go into the kitchen and prepare dinner and to run the length of a long hall to greet my husband.
