With a deep sense of gratitude I write this testimony in the hope that my experience may help others who are seeking the truth. From childhood I suffered from stomach trouble and had considerable pain. I was always on a strict diet, but in spite of care and watchfulness never became strong. About two years ago a well-known specialist advised an operation, diagnosing my case as chronic appendicitis. Instead of becoming a well man after the operation, however, I became worse; the pains were more severe than ever. I also suffered from bowel trouble, which I never had before, and became so miserably weak that I was a physical wreck. A few months later, observing that there was no improvement in my condition, this physician expressed his opinion that I was suffering from colitis, and that the appendix was not the cause of the pain; but by way of consolation he added that since the appendix had been removed it surely could not trouble me again. He then advised another method of treatment, which was very painful, and I had to remain in bed constantly for a week, my only nourishment consisting of a glass of buttermilk every two hours. The end of the week found me in a very weak condition with no sign of relief; in fact, I was gradually becoming worse.

At this period I changed doctors. This doctor found me very much underfed and a nervous wreck. During his treatment I improved somewhat, but again suffered a relapse. Besides stomach trouble, sleeplessness had developed, the latter covering a period of about nine months. The strongest opiates were of no avail, having absolutely no effect, except to leave me in worse shape each time. I grew very despondent and at various times had suicidal intentions.

My dear sister-in-law then told me of the wonderful healings Christian Science was bringing about and begged me to take it up. I certainly had no more faith in doctors, so immediately wanted to know something about it. That evening my wife borrowed from the reading room in the vicinity a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I began at once to read the book, but it was difficult for me to grasp its meaning. I therefore thought it best to visit a practitioner, and words cannot express how deeply interested I was when this loving woman unfolded the truth to me concerning man's relation to God. About a week later I purchased a copy of Science and Health, also a Bible, which I had never read. In about ten treatments I improved wonderfully; so much so that I felt reborn. I have been entirely healed of the stomach trouble, and sleeplessness is yielding to the truth.
