In November, 1913, I was told by the physician who had operated on me nine months before that I would have to undergo another operation and then rest for three months. A friend inquired of him the next day what my condition would be at the end of that period, and his reply was that I probably never would be well. That evening she asked me to try Christian Science first, and after she had talked with me for some time, to please her I promised to see a practitioner, and made arrangements to do so the following Monday, the first day of December.

I was not confined to the bed, but suffered intense pain every minute; and on the way to the practitioner I kept thinking how useless it was to try anything else. After entering the practitioner's home, however, I had a sense of peace that I had never known before. She talked with me for a while, telling me that God is Love and does not send illness to His children (I had been taught that He did), and then asked if I wanted treatment. I did not know what that was, but thought if it meant any more of the peace that had come to me, I wanted it; and I answered, "Yes." I did not know then that this was the peace which Jesus tells us about in the fourteenth chapter of John.

On the way home I realized that I was walking much straighter than I had walked for some time; and thinking over what I had heard, the thought came to me that I was really God's child, and was getting ready to live, not die. Within two weeks I was completely healed of the condition which had led me to ask for treatment, and during that time the bowels, which had troubled me since childhood, became normal also. The following April my eyes were healed. I had worn glasses nearly twenty-one years and was told by one of the best specialists in the East that they would always have to be worn. To leave them off an hour would mean a sick headache, but since the healing I have done more studying than I had in years put together before.
