The evangelist whose remarks appeared in part in the Reporter, contends that Christian Science is inconsistent with the Bible and has its source elsewhere than in the Scripture. As to the source of Christian Science, it will be remembered that some fifty years ago Mrs. Eddy, when apparently near the end of human existence, turned to the Bible for help, and while reading the gospel accounts of healing performed by Jesus, suddenly found herself restored to health. She then determined if possible, to discover the law back of her healing and to understand the science practiced by the Master in effecting his remarkable cures and other works.

Speaking of this experience, Mrs. Eddy has said (Science and Health, p. 109): "I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God, and that cures were produced in primitive Christian healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration." On page 110 she continues: "In following these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only textbook. The Scriptures were illumined; reason and revelation were reconciled, and afterwards the truth of Christian Science was demonstrated."

It is clear from this that Mrs. Eddy in discovering and founding Christian Science has not gone outside the inspired pages of the Bible. In fact, one can hardly read her writings without being irresistibly drawn to the Scriptures for further investigation; and as one pursues such course he begins to see that the healings narrated in the Bible were based upon Principle, that its science can be understood by all people in all ages, the present included, and, better than all, that one can put in practice this science in proportion to his understanding of it.
