The Lectures

Chicago, Ill. (Fourteenth Church).—Prof. Hermann S. Hering, lecturer; introduced by Eugene M. Bornhoft, who said in part:—

In the seventeenth chapter of Matthew we read that a certain man kneeled down to the Master, saying: "Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water...And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour." To the desciples who looked on in amazement, Jesus said, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you." Relative to such faith, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in one of her writings entitled "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 9) says, "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases."

My friends, I am a living witness to the truth of these statements. From experience I can say that the wonderful healing power demonstrated by Jesus is applicable to-day. Just about fourteen years ago, through the application of scientific right thinking about God and man as taught in Christian Science, I was released from the Illinois Northern Hospital for the Insane, where, a few months prior, the doctors had pronounced the case incurable, and said that the end was nigh. And so, instead of a dead lunatic in Elgin in 1903, we have a live, wide-awake, prosperous business man in Chicago in 1917.
