About three years ago I began the study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I was suffering from a complication of diseases, some of which the doctors who were attending me pronounced incurable; others, they said, might be cured by an operation, but such an operation at my age, which was seventy years, would be very uncertain in its results, so they refused to take the case. With this information I was completely discuraged and gave up all hope of ever being any better. I had been suffering for about ten months with a very bad leg, and about eight months of that time I was unable to stand on my foot, the doctor being unable to give me any relief from pain except by the use of drugs. For about five months I sat in a reclining chair all day and part of the night.

While in this condition a lady whom I had not seen for some years heard of my trouble and called to see me. She asked why I did not try Christian Science, saying that it had healed her, and that it would cure me. I told her to get a practitioner for me, which she did, and I began treatment, but with very little faith that it would help me, for I thought that if the doctors could not help me, nothing else would; but to my surprise, very soon the pain was about gone, and I was able to get around a little with crutches. The wound soon healed, and for several months I have been able to get around without any material aid and with very little inconvenience. I have also been healed completely of one ailment which the doctors said could be cured only by an operation; also of the drink habit and of the swearing habit. Heart trouble which used to cause great fear at times has been very much lessened, so that the fear from that source is nearly gone. I can truly say that I believe if it had not been for what I have learned from the Bible and our textbook I would not be here to-day. While there are other discords yet to be overcome, I know that by earnest prayer and obedience to the will of God, I shall know the truth and be free.

For all these blessings I am unable to find words to express my thankfulness to God and my gratitude to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I thank God for the practitioner who has been so kind and patient in explaining this teaching to me, and for the many friends who have been so helpful. My prayer is that I may do each day some good for my fellow man. I give this testimony with the hope that if there is any brother similarly afflicted, he will not get discouraged in well-doing.—J.
