The time has come when I feel that I must express my gratitude to God, to our Leader, and to all others who have helped me in my journey to the Father's house, and with a grateful heart I send this testimony. Although my husband is an American, his business necessitates our living abroad; but Christian Science found the way over the sea and up into our Swiss mountains. I had been ill for almost two years, during which time the best doctors here diagnosed the trouble as nerves, rheumatism, and female disorder. For weeks at a time I could not leave my bed, and even when for a few days I was able to rise, I had to be helped and felt as if a heavy load were bound to the small of my back. At last I was operated on, but there was still no improvement. Then the doctor said another and very serious operation would be necessary, but I refused to permit it. I had borne enough, and if any one had told me I could go to sleep and would not have to wake again, I would have been so glad, as I had grown to be a burden to myself and others.

Just at this time a gentleman who had come over from America mentioned Christian Science to me. I asked a few questions about it, and his answers so interested me that I asked him to send me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, as I had plenty of time for reading and felt that I would like to know more about this healing truth. When the book came I found great pleasure in reading the noble thoughts of our Leader and was very happy while reading; but the thought, If it were only true, was always there. I kept on, however, and one day—I shall never forget it—there came a wave of joy and thanksgiving with the realization, Why, it is true, every word of it; it always has been true, and always will be true. Where was the back trouble, the nervous heart, and where were all the other errors which had bound me for two years? Gone in that moment of spiritual understanding, and they have never returned, although this was over three years ago.

But the most wonderful part of it is the absence of fear, the knowing when you awake that you have the whole day to do God's work in, and that nothing can prevent its being a good day. To know, when you begin to meet material needs, that God gave man dominion over the whole earth, leaves nothing to fear. We have had so many beautiful demonstrations of God's power to heal and to bless, that I could not begin to tell of them all, but my joy and my understanding increase each day, and in time I hope to be found worthy to help others as I have been helped.—Ida E. Beer, St. Gall, Switzerland.
