Several years ago Christian Science was brought to my attention by a very good friend, at a time when I was sorely in need of a change of thought. My trouble at that time was mental, and as I had been dwelling upon it constantly it had assumed mountainous proportions. This friend said he knew that Christian Science could help me, and at his earnest request I consented to visit a practitioner, although decidedly skeptical as to results. I however left the practitioner's home with an already changing thought, and immediately began the study of Science and Health, visited the reading room, and went to church. Later I got a Quarterly and studied the Lesson-Sermons. The unreality of my trouble was soon proven, for it disappeared entirely.
Through Christian Science I have gained complete victory over bowel difficulty and accompanying hemorhoids, with which I had been troubled since boyhood. Other minor ailments have entirely disappeared and been forgotten; but they were numerous. I am so thankful that I am today able to help myself when adverse conditions try to fasten themselves upon me; and, what is far more gratifying, it has been demonstrated that I can help others also. I find that my advancement in Science is proportionate to the use I make of the understanding already gained.
Until about a year ago I had been an inveterate smoker, but in June last my eyes were opened to the folly of continuing as a slave to tobacco. One morning as I came into the office and was about to have my customary smoke I decided that with God's help I never would smoke again; and I never have. The wonderful part about it (and this will be more fully appreciated by those who are or have been smokers) is that I never have had a desire for tobacco. Since I gave up the habit I feel much better, both physically and mentally.
