I have derived much happiness through the expression...
I have derived much happiness through the expression in our Wednesday evening meetings of my gratitude for the great help received through the reading and study of our Christian Science periodicals, and it has occurred to me that I might express that gratitude in a larger way through these periodicals.
For many years I was a semi-invalid, in a constant state of suffering and unhappiness and the cause of much trouble and anxiety to those about me. All my life I had an intense longing to know how to live rightly, but the harder I tried the more of a failure I seemed, until finally there seemed to be nothing left for me. Everything that the medical profession had to offer was tried, and if loving care had been sufficient to heal me I certainly had much manifested to me; but I grew worse all the time. The Bible seemed a closed book, and the church to which I had belonged failed to give the solution to the problem of living. The state of mind in which I found myself at this time culminated in a severe attack of illness, and for days I was not conscious of what was going on about me.
A year before this the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, had been offered to me by a sister who had been helped in Christian Science, but I did not seem to be able to grasp the truth at that time. The seed, however, was planted, and when I recovered consciousness I had a strong desire to try Christian Science. A practitioner was called, and after the first treatment I knew that this was the truth for which I had been longing all my life. I accepted it eagerly and was quickly healed. My greatest joy was to find a religion the rules of which if properly applied would solve the daily problems.
