Six years ago a friend made me a present of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, but as I knew nothing of Christian Science the book did not appeal to me. I thought it would take a higher education than mine to understand its Principle, and I laid the book aside. Some three months later I met with an accident, falling from a high stairway to the ground and striking on my head. Then I had a feeling I wanted to read Science and Health, as I suffered great distress in the back of my neck and head. I opened the book at the testimonies, and became so interested that I read many hours at a time. The more I read, the greater was my desire to understand this beautiful healing truth and to know as others did that God is all-power; that He is Life and Love, and that there is no power beside Him which can and will heal all our mortal illusions.

Through the fall I lost my hearing, and for a time was so deaf that I could not hear the clock tick even when it was held close to my ear; but through the work of a faithful Christian Science practitioner and my own declaration of the truth I suddenly heard the clock ticking, and joy and gratitude went up from my heart to our Father-Mother God for leading me into the knowledge of how to work out my salvation here on earth. I had never before found the Bible interesting, because I did not understand it, but through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy I have learned to love it. God's promises are comforting to me, and the more I read of them the more I love God, and my neighbor as myself.

From the first of my entering into the knowledge of this beautiful truth I had a longing to help those in distress, and through this earnest desire to do good Truth has helped me not only to overcome ailments in myself, but also to be a blessing to others. My heart is overflowing with gratitude for the spiritual light given us through the teachings of Mrs. Eddy, who, having consecrated her life wholly to God, divine Love, was inspired to give His wisdom to the world.
