Our critic states, "Christian Science stands opposed to the Bible." On the contrary, this religious teaching is based absolutely upon the Bible. That it does honor and respect the Bible is attested by the fact that the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy are the only preachers of this denomination. Every Christian Scientist is urged to become an earnest student of the Bible, and the first tenet of the Christian Science faith, as given on page 497 of Science and Health, is as follows: "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

Christian Science does not deny a single fundamental teaching of Christianity as Jesus taught it. It does, however, deny the validity and accuracy of the man-made formulations which pass current as articles of Christian faith; but that is quite different. It is this sort of denial, combined with the affirmation of that which is valid and true in the Christian religion, which gives Christian Science its essential value as a practical religious teaching.

Our critic blandly states, "No true Christian Scientist can ever get to heaven." If one is really a "true Christian Scientist," he does not need to "get to heaven." He has already, in some measure, brought heaven to his own consciousness, in conformity with Jesus' statement: "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." Some day these so-called evangelists will learn the utter futility of attacks upon Christian Science and the good Christian people who constitute its followers. They will then see that their efforts have been misdirected; that instead of fighting evil they have been antagonizing the greatest factor in the destruction of evil known to humanity today. That many Christian ministers have already seen and acknowledged this is one of the hopeful "signs of the times."
