The North End News

I am sure it will be a service to your readers to point out that the statement made in your columns, that "there are numbers of people who try mind-healing and find no benefit from it," is merely another way of saying that there is wrong mental practice as well as right mental practice. This was perfectly indicated in the experience of Christ Jesus, who was accused of healing by Beelzebub, mortal mind or suggestion, when in truth he healed by the "Spirit of truth" and by the "finger of God."

It should be obvious that no person has ever failed to receive benefit from right mental practice, because this consists in successfully striving to know the truth. It consists in the utmost self-abnegation and prayerful recognition of God's omnipresence. This spiritual activity cannot result in anything but elevated human experience, approaching the complete salvation of humanity.

That there is wrong mental practice abroad is equally evident. Do we not see announcements of so-called business colleges and correspondence courses designed to teach sales people to sell goods by suggestion or hypnotism? Do we not have a host of people who still believe that the practice of Christian Science consists of the exercise of the human will, or the domination of one human mind over another, when in fact that is the very opposite of Christian Science?
