Love's Guidance

Supernal guide, into Thy way
The seeking heart is ever led,
Nourished by Truth's immortal bread,
As Israel's band of old were fed
From day to trusting day.

The foe shall then press hard in vain,—
The waves are cleft at Thy command,
A wall of strength on either hand;
Forward we go on solid land,
And error counts its slain.

Oh, may we tune our hearts to hear
The voice that speaks from bush and cloud,—
The voice of Truth that calls aloud,
Or whispers, when the head is bowed,
To the receptive ear.

Father of lights, our guardian be,
Our guide along the mounting way,
Our comfort through the brightening day;
And, bathed in Truth's effulgent ray,
We shall rejoice in Thee.
