I owe Christian Science a great debt of gratitude for all...

I owe Christian Science a great debt of gratitude for all it has done for me since I became acquainted with its teachings. For many years I suffered with a stomach trouble accompanied with violent pain in the back, and every now and then I was under the care of physicians at cliniques. At intervals the trouble became so aggravated that I had to stay in bed for months, this being the only way in which I was able to retain a little food. The last physician whom I consulted prescribed the use of a stomach pump as the only means which in his opinion would bring relief, though a cure could not be effected thereby. He informed me that I would have to make use of this device for the rest of my life.

I had been applying this treatment for several months without obtaining anything like satisfactory results, when I made the acquaintance of a Christian Scientist, who told me of the great message which Christian Science is bringing to mankind. This was in 1910. I immediately felt that my needs would be met as much with regard to my physical condition as to the religious beliefs to which I subscribed, as these more particularly had ceased to bring me the needed comfort. I asked this person to give me treatment, and in taking this step I abandoned all material means, as the truth which had just been brought to my knowledge had made me lose all faith in them. Inside of a week my health improved considerably, and within a mouth I was completely restored. Although I did not know the English language, I asked the person who had treated me so kindly to secure for me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Next I bought an English-French dictionary, with the help of which I succeeded in reading this precious book. Since then—this was six years ago—I have felt better both mentally and physically than at any time before. I have often had the opportunity at home of proving what I understood of Truth by doing healing work.

In the little mountain village where I stayed with my parents until the fall of 1915, there were others besides myself who had had the privilege of knowing the truth and of experiencing its beneficent effects. At this time there is a small group of people there who, without any knowledge of the English language and without any higher education, have succeeded with the help of a dictionary in studying every day part of the Lesson-Sermon, and who have been enabled to demonstrate the truth in their homes. This proves that Christian Science is within the reach of all who really desire to know the truth and to make it their own.
