Having received in dark hours so much encouragement...

Having received in dark hours so much encouragement from reading the testimonies in the Sentinel, I send this one as a token of gratitude, with the hope that it will be of help to some sufferer. That it is never too late to turn to God is evident from the following experience.

In 1911 my little boy, aged six years, became ill. He was in bed for a fortnight, during which time we had two physicians, who both failed to diagnose the ailment. A third one was called in, who declared the trouble to be appendicitis in its most severe form, and said the patient had only a few hours to live. The boy was at once taken to the hospital, where an operation was immediately performed. For some time I had been studying Christian Science, but my husband was averse to having Christian Science treatment for the boy. As I was convinced, however, of the power of Truth, a practitioner was telephoned to just before the operation was to take place. She lovingly quieted my fears and promised to take up treatment at once.

After the operation the doctor told me there was practically little hope, as the case was so complicated. He expressed the fear that there could not be a natural passage through the bowels, and said if my son's life was spared he would have a long illness. Every material law was, however, overcome. The boy was not aware that the operation had been performed, but thought he had only been examined. The first night he slept without any drugs the whole night through. The following days he had hardly any fever at all, and this was pronounced a most remarkable thing, as very high fever was expected. The fourth day there was a natural movement of the bowels.
