Among a number of definitions of the word "Christianity"...
West Chester (Pa.) Local News
Among a number of definitions of the word "Christianity" is the following: "The system of doctrines and precepts taught by Christ. Practical conformity of one's inward and outward life to the spirit of the Christian religion." With no thought of boasting, it may be said that Christian Scientists are endeavoring not to omit any of the Christian duties Jesus assigned to his followers, and especially are they endeavoring to carry out that part of Jesus' command which he illustrated so convincingly and unceasingly in his own work—healing the sick.
Again, Jesus named as one of the signs which "shall follow them that believe," that "they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." That the sick are being healed through Christian Science there is a volume of evidence. United States Senator John D. Works, in a speech in the Senate chamber in January of last year, gave fifty-seven carefully authenticated cases of healing through this means, including cases of tuberculosis, drink habit, drug habit, kidney disease, cancer, tumor, organic heart disease, locomotor ataxia, diabetes, Bright's disease, blindness, deafness, epilepsy, and so on, covering a total of thirty-six distinct diseases.
For many years the Christian Science periodicals have been weekly and monthly printing verified reports of healing, these amounting to certainly more than fifteen thousand cases; in addition to all of which, in each of the Wednesday evening meetings of the more than fifteen hundred Christian Science churches scattered over the world, may be heard weekly an average of at least five cases of healing. Several years ago it was estimated Christian Science had at that time healed a million cases of sickness. In the light of these facts Christian Scientists believe they are fully entitled to be classed as Christians.
