In Psalms we read, "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits." I want to testify to the daily blessings I receive, and to express my thankfulness for them, as well as my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for showing us the way through Christian Science to claim and appropriate these blessings.
Ten years ago I was healed of an aggravated case of rheumatism. I had an acute attack when about nine years old, and after recovering from it was told that I had a tendency to rheumatism and must be very careful. I grew up with that conviction, and the consequence was that when I had any other physical ailment there was generally the complication of rheumatism to contend with also. Finally, after an attack of typhoid fever I realized that this enemy had possession of me, and after weeks of medical treatment, during which the lameness was steadily becoming worse and the suffering increasing, I went to a Christian Science practitioner. In three weeks I walked much better and had little pain, but treatment was continued two weeks more, and I have been free from rheumatism since that time. I have been healed twice of a badly injured ankle. Once, though the sprain and bruise were very bad, in two treatments I was perfectly well.
For the encouragement of those to whom healing comes slowly, I want to tell of the overcoming of severe headaches, for they completely prostrated me. When I began the study of Christian Science, I was having them three and sometimes four times every month. The suffering was so intense that the dread of them was correspondingly great, and I could generally say with Job, "The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me." Through Christian Science treatments and my own study and growing understanding of the truth they became less frequent, several times three months elapsing between the attacks; and it is now a year since I have suffered in that way. Only those who have been in bondage to such a belief can understand my thanksgiving to God for setting me free, and my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy.
