Several years ago I came face to face with a case of physical healing under Christian Science treatment. My fiancee, now my wife, who at that time had been interested in Christian Science only a few weeks, was incapacitated by a poisoned foot. A message was sent to a Christian Science practitioner, and absent treatment was given, with the result that the pain vanished that night. The practitioner called the next morning and gave further treatment. Healing was complete by the afternoon and the foot could be used as well as ever. This occurred in London, and the letter I received in Manchester informing me of it removed my objections to Christian Science,—objections based, I regret to say, on hearsay only. My interest in this teaching steadily grew forward, fed by occasional pamphlets issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society, and later by some copies of the Sentinel, which I eagerly read from cover to cover.

Six months after this healing I borrowed a copy of Science and Health. I had read many books on philosophy, comparative religion, and kindred subjects, and they had convinced me that true religion was broader than any denomination I then knew of; but I was left in a mental quagmire, since my ignorance of true religion had been brought home to me without teaching me anything of much value concerning Truth. The reading of the text-book, however, gave me real instruction concerning true religion, and in a logical way, proving each point by deductions from divine Principle. There was the added test of practical experience that a training in physical science had led me to expect from any system claiming to be science, and this was met so satisfactorily in Christian Science that I was early convinced of its truth.

Through reading the text-book I abandoned dieting and special "health" exercises, and from that time my health has steadily improved, and my capacity for continuous work, both mental and physical, has never been so good as now. Further, I have learned to place full reliance on God, as taught in Christian Science, to heal all sickness and overcome all difficulties. I am grateful for the faithful help rendered by Christian Science practitioners, especially in a severe case of hay-fever, which was quickly relieved and in about ten days fully overcome. Formerly this complaint had troubled me through the whole summer. Whereas formerly each day seemed to bring me discouragement and perpetual trouble from small mistakes and lack of concentration in my occupation as an electrical engineer, it is now an increasing joy to me to endeavor to give the best possible service. I know that the only way to happiness and success lies in doing right by others, and to do so one must first learn how to serve God aright, and this Christian Science is teaching me to do.
