Among the Churches

Current Notes

Ossining, N. Y. —The annual lecture on Christian Science at Sing Sing Prison, which has become a feature of the prison routine for the last three years, was delivered today [March 6] by Bliss Knapp. Warden Kirchwey introduced Mr. Knapp, and the attendance of more than one hundred and fifty men was made up of those who attend Christian Science services every Sunday.

Christian Science was introduced into Sing Sing life by chance. A prisoner's wife took some Christian Science literature to him and it was subsequently passed around to other prisoners. They became interested and asked for further literature, which was obtained for them by the prison officials. Since then Christian Science has found favor with hundreds of prisoners and many of the officals also have become interested. At all times the missionary method of the Christian Science promoters has been unobtrusive, but any literature requested has been readily furnished. The prison officials stated that those who attend the services each Sunday are among the best poised and most orderly prisoners in the institution. A feature of today's lecture was the distribution of several hundred copies of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
