It is with sincere gratitude for the many blessings Christian Science has brought me that I give this testimony. For fifteen years my hearing had been failing, and in the winter of 1913 it became so bad I could not retain my position as a locomotive engineer, which I had held for thirty-five years. In March, 1914, I was asked to attend a Christian Science testimony meeting. Though I could not hear a word that was spoken, I entertained myself by reading the mottoes on the walls. The one which read, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," especially appealed to me, so that following the service I asked for help to learn what this truth was, in order to be made free. Through the study of the Lesson-Sermons, and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, together with the aid of a practitioner, I learned the truth, and have been healed of deafness and other physical ailments.
Several years ago I fell from my engine, dislocasting my shoulder and breaking the collar-bone. When I left the hospital, physicians told me I would never be able to lift my right arm above my head or close the hand so as to hold small articles, such as pens or pencils. This was a constant hindrance to me in making out reports and in many other ways. After trying specialists in every known school of medicine but receiving no relief, both the hand and arm were freed in one week's treatment in Christian Science. I was also healed of a lame back, with which I had been troubled for twenty-five years. Sometimes I would be unable to get down from my engine after a trip without assistance, and I was never able to walk far at one time. Now I enjoy walking and feel no weariness afterward.
In October, 1914, I took the regular medical examination of locomotive engineers required by the company every two years, and was pronounced in perfect physical condition. Both my wife and I are trying to show our gratitude by learning more of Christian Science and living daily what we learn. This is bringing us great peace and harmony.
