I do not know of any one who has more reason than myself...
I do not know of any one who has more reason than myself to be grateful for Christian Science healing, both physical and spiritual. From childhood I had suffered severely from headaches, and through the winter season from continuous throat trouble. Then followed an injured ankle, and an at tack of scarlet fever which left deafness in its train; and still later a low, nervous fever added stomach disorder to the list, until the belief in sickness became chronic. The household was in the throes of a controversy over the old relentless theology, so between physical suffering and mental unrest the way was opened for Christian Science.
My first introduction to Christian Science was through reading an adverse criticism in a magazine article. One of its statements was to the effect that Mrs. Eddy had written a book which healed the sick simply by reading it. I wanted that book, but could not procure a copy in any of the local bookstores, so eventually sent to Boston for one. I had not at this date met any one who had even heard of Christian Science.
In my first reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," a case of healing was brought out which prevented an operation. For about a year after this I was physically well, but one evening a sudden, severe attack of the old throat trouble presented itself. In fear and trembling I took up Science and Health, intending to read for only a little while; but when I looked at the clock, thinking it was bedtime, it was two in the morning. All the suffering was gone except a slight hoarseness, and the dreaded night was half over. Later a headache came on. After a few hours of suffering I suddenly remembered that a friend was due on the six o'clock afternoon train, and would come straight to the house. What would I do? The family, including the household help, were up in the mountains, and I had stayed behind for the quiet of a couple of days' study of Christian Science.
