I am glad to give this testimony, as it shows so clearly the futility of material means when compared with spiritual might. About six years ago our little daughter, then two years old, in jumping from the doorstep on to the porch in her bare feet ran a needle into her foot, just under the small toe joint. It broke off, leaving about two thirds of the needle in her foot. I quickly telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner, but instead of leaving it to God and trusting in His love and care, I seemed to be constantly thinking of tales I had heard of bad results from similar accidents, so a surgeon was called. Two incisions were made, but all attempts to remove the needle failed. It was deeply embedded in the foot, and a few days later an X-ray examination showed it with the point sticking into the bone. The surgeon then had powerful magnets inserted into the opening, as he hoped in that way to draw the needle out, but this also failed. The child was therefore taken home, the foot bandaged, and Christian Science treatments were given regularly for about ten days. At the end of that time, when the X-ray was again used, the needle had disappeared. In spite of the cutting and probing on two different occasions, there was never a sign of inflammation or soreness. The child seemed perfectly comfortable during the period of healing, and even the scar has since disappeared.
I am deeply grateful to God for giving us in this day one pure enough to hear the "still small voice" of Truth, wise enough to obey it, and unselfish enough to give it to the world.—Frederika U. Barnhart, Winnetka, III.
